Rockabilly Model absolutely loves and adores The Runaways. These girls could flat-out EFFIN’ ROCK!!! In the shoot Queens of Noise we try capture more than the mere obvious "Well, she was just seventeen, you know what I mean" jail-bait look and imagery. The teenage quintet was the first all-girl rock band that made a major impact in the male-dominated world of rock ‘n’ roll, selling out at major arenas in America,Japan and Europe . With pure raw talent, glitter kids glam rock fashion and searing lyrics they ravished and lay bare their vigor and gusto.

From their rebel-girl, garage-rock operetta, Dead End Justice, --“I'm a blond bombshell and I wear it well. Your momma says you're going straight to hell. I'm sweet sixteen and a rebel queen, and I look real hot in my tight blue jeans.”-- to the group's anthem and biggest hit, Cherry Bomb,-- "Down the street, I'm the girl next door, I'm the fox you've been waiting for. Hello world, I'm your wild girl, I'm your cherry bomb"-- theirs was a true declaration of emancipated, wonder women,man-eating sex appeal.

The open view and sound of young girls' inner appetite was discomforting for much of America. Certainly teenage girls shouldn't be aware of sex, booze and life on the streets, let alone singing frankly and rocking with reckless abandon in their proto-punk sound about such issues. No, no, they should be at home, lamenting over their hope chest, having sleep overs and curling each others' hair.

In the late 1970's, when self-conscious disco ran amok and long before there was a Girls Gone Wild fervor [exploitative sexism parading as female empowerment] The Runaways—with their openly raw anti-establishment attitudes—were blatant social catalysts with gonads for young female rockers everywhere to grab a guitar and your drums, a skateboard, a surfboard or even the boy next door … and do what you want with it.

Reunion tour with Suzie Qautro, PLEASE! America wants The Runaways.

Check out The Runaways performing American Nights live in Japan 1977. Keep in mind as you see and hear how tight, how great this band was, they were all only sixteen and seventeen years old.
